I’m a Twins fan. Always have been, always will be. The Twinkies are my boys! Growing up I wanted to be Kirby Puckett. I wanted to be a center fielder for the Twins and who cares that I’m female.
Monday division rivals Chicago White Sox had to play a make up game against the Detroit Tigers. Sadly Detroit lost, which meant the Twins and Sox were tied for first. So they had to play a tie breaker game on Tuesday. And oh the pain! My boys lost! Had they won, they would have been down here playing the Tampa Bay Rays.
Instead, Chicago is down here getting their butts kicked! And while I’m a Twins fan, I also like the Rays and I am thrilled for what they are managing to do. Especially considering they’re in the same division as the Yankees (booo hiiissss) and the Red Sox, both teams that have managed to run away with the division in past years. So I’m hoping the Rays can keep it up and go all the way. They truly deserve it.
On a note of irony. In 2004, the year the Red Sox won the series was the year the Twins traded Doug Mientkiewicz to them. It was during a home stand for the Twins with the Red Sox visiting. Doug literally gathered his stuff from his locker in the Twins locker room and headed to the visitor’s locker room. And went on to earn a World Series ring with the Red Sox. For the 2004 season catcher A. J. Pierzynski was traded from the Twins to the Giants and in 2005 he played for the Chicago White Sox. The team that went on to win the World Series that year.
Where’s the irony you ask? Well, Rays pitchers Grant Balfour and Matt Garza and short stop Jason Bartlett were all recent members of the Twins. And now they too are on a team that has a good chance of winning the World Series. Go Rays!
