I freely admit that I’m not sure how exactly I can make this one match my weight loss journey.  Ohhh, maybe it’s because I’m constantly moving through this maze that is life trying to get to my cheese.  Which is this case is a healthier me. Although I wouldn’t say no to some cheese.  Which doesn’t exactly help me get to my goals.  But dang is it good.

Speaking of goals; I had weigh in last night and I maintained.  I was very happy to see a maintain instead of gain.  The last week plus I’ve felt like a bottomless pit.  I would eat and within 15 minutes be starving again.  It’s not a feeling that I like.  It didn’t matter what I ate, although somehow it did seem that the healthier the options the longer it took to fill me up.  Which was very strange.  J and I decided that my metabolism ramped up a bit and that’s what it is.  Sounds good anyway 🙂

In non-weight loss journey news.  I saw on nbcnews.com this morning that Boyz II Men, NKOTB and 98 Degrees is touring together this summer.  I actually want to go; more for Boyz II Men and NKOTB.  Boyz II Men was the very first concert I ever went to; they toured with Tevin Campbell and Babyface.  If you don’t remember, Tevin Campbell had a bunch of ballads that were hits.  I was looking forward to them, and then his portion of the show sucked because he tried to make them all more upbead/hip hop and it didn’t work.  But I loved Babyface and BIIM.  What do you think the chances of convincing J to go with me are?  Yeah, I’m thinking slim to none too.

On the running front, I’ve been pretty consistent with going out on Tuesday and Thursday’s. I still haven’t managed to be consistent with a long run on the weekends.  My co-worker and I didn’t make it out yesterday during lunch so I went after Weight Watchers.  I got to break in my pretty new running pants that J got me for Christmas as the temps dropped a bit.  I found I was fine with those and a t-shirt but my hands got too cold.  My hands are very cold sensitive thanks to the MS and the constant “wind” on them was a bit much.  So I only did two loops instead of a hoped for third.  And it looks like I’ll be adding some gloves to my cooler weather gear.  If you see someone running in pants, a t-shirt and gloves, it’s just me.  Feel free to laugh at how silly I look

This is a sad weekend for my invisible family; one of our own lost her husband very suddenly yesterday.  When I found out, this was the song going through my head, these were the words I kept thinking of.  He was young, my friend is around my age and they have a beautiful young son.  Now this wonderful, amazing, upbeat woman and her precious little boy are going to have to make their way through life with an important part of theirselves missing.

In all of this sadness there is a very bright moment.  I am so very blessed to count myself as a part of an unbelievably wonderful group of people.  We may not have all met in person, but we are friends, we are family and we are there for each other. Within hours ideas of how to help this family were flying.  Nothing is set yet, we’re all sitting back and waiting to see what is needed first.  But we will be there.  And in support of our hurting friend, family member, another friend Panda of Panda Brand Graphics Studio created this beautiful picture.

Panda So today I ask that you hold your loved ones a little closer, say “I love you” a few extra times and if you get the chance, dance.

This fits in with my goals for the year.  To be healthier and to do more in my area.  Instead of saying “I will do this, someday”, I am saying “I will be doing this, today.” 

I went to Weight Watchers last night and was amazed at how many people I saw there.  Recently I’ve heard, and been guilty of, people saying “tomorrow I’ll start my diet” or “Monday I’ll go back to Weight Watchers.”  Don’t do that.  Live for today, do today.  It’s ok to mess up, it’s ok to decide that today you want to eat that pizza, and those fries.  But be aware of it, write it down.  Start doing something today that is your version of living.

Today my version of living is tracking everything I eat and staying within my daily points + activity points.  I will also be running at lunch.  That is how I am living today.  And I’m looking forward to a feeling of accomplishment when I go to bed tonight.


Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success.

For everyone who has made any kind of resolution for New Year’s, this seems very fitting.  If we think we are a success at what we set out to do, then we will keep a positive frame of mind and, hopefully, whatever that resolution is it will become easier.  I haven’t really done resolutions in years past, but maybe it’s time to start doing so.  And not so much a resolution as a goal, a plan for my year.  Here is what I plan on being successful at.

1. Walking the dogs more: I definitely haven’t done this enough recently and the poor pups suffer for it. Granted we have a fenced in yard, in fact, that’s partially my excuse when I don’t feel like doing it.  But that needs to stop.  They need to get out of the house (and yard) as much as I do.  So I plan on walking the dogs more in this new year.  I’ll start with three days a week and progress from there.

2. Focus more on tracking what I eat and making healthy choices: I’ve been really slacking with this lately and I need to re-focus on it.  It not only benefits me, but also J who needs to watch what he eats as well to control his diabetes.  In fact, it actually occurred to me the other day that recently I haven’t been a very good girlfriend and I’ve been enabling/providing unhealthy choices.  So for both of our sakes, that is stopping.

3. Running more: I have the Disney Princess Half Marathon in a month and twenty ish days!! (Oh, I should get a countdown app to have the exact days) And like tracking, I’ve been slacking on running recently.  So starting yesterday, I will be running 3 days a week.  Tues/Thurs lunch time is my short run where my co-worker and I are working on time; we do interval running and we’re up to a minute and fifteen seconds for running, a minute walking.  Saturday’s will be my distance days and I will focus on adding a mile each week. 

4. Being more positive: My friend Nurse Bananahammock has made the decision to be more positive in this new year and not let the negativity of others affect her as much.  I like it, so I’m stealing it.  I make no secret about how the lack of common sense that isn’t so common any more really irritates me.  So this is going to be difficult, but something I’m going to work at.  I’ll probably start adopting that infamous Southern phrase “Bless his/her heart” when I run across situations that are guarenteed to irritate me. 

5. Explore more: There’s a lot of Florida that I really haven’t seen and this year J and I need to play tourist in our own state.  Just get out and go see what areas off of the beaten path have to offer.  If/when we do go out to dinner, start venturing further than our own city more often so we can discover other wonderful restaurants.

I haven’t done one of these in awhile and I need to get back to doing them.  I find that if I do a quote of the day before starting work I actually do a bit better in my weight loss journey for that day.  So I plan on getting back to these.

Today’s is very fitting, given that it’s the end of the year.  And it seems every year the big resolution is to lose weight, eat healthier and work out more.  This seems to be a very fitting reminder that being healthy is something we constantly have to work at.  Unfortunately we can’t just lose that 10, 20, 50 or however many pounds and be done.  It’s something that we always have to do and always have to be cognizent of. 

The other side of that coin is failure.  Sure I’ve failed; heck I’ve failed these past couple of weeks.  But it’s not fatal, it’s not final.  I can make, and do, make the decision to turn that failure around and be a success.  If I give into my failure then not only will it be harder to turn it around later, but it will very negatively effect me in so many ways.  And I don’t want that.  I don’t want that for me and I sure don’t want that for those in my life.  So today I’m resurrecting my success.  Today’s success is going to be tracking everything I eat and drink, even if it does mean I go over on points.  This is what works for me and what I will do.

Today’s quote is very fitting for me personally.  I think of the times I was on vacation and didn’t go anywhere, or last year when I was out of work for 6 weeks post surgery.  It was very easy to get into the habit of just sitting and watching junk on tv instead of doing something productive.  I find that I am much more likely to actually follow weight watchers and work out when I have a schedule that includes work.  When I have that variety in my life, I’m definitely much more content.  It’s a feeling I need to remember when I have “staycations”. 

 


Goals that are not written down are just wishes

And now I have “A dream is a wish your heart makes” stuck in my head 🙂  But you know, I’ve never thought of it this way.  I do admit to having a very generalized goal but I’ve been taking the “a little bit at a time” approach rather than having an end goal.  Having the shorter term goals has worked out a bit better for me this time around.  It’s less over whelming to think that I can do 10 pounds at a time rather than, say 100 pounds (no, that’s not really how many I’m going for overall). 

But actually writing down what I want to accomplish, I’ve never really done that, outside of activity anyway.  So maybe it’s something I need to start doing.  I could make that a monthly thing, at the beginning of each month set a goal, or re-iterate an overall goal and then at the end of the month see how well I managed to stick to it.  I think I’ll consider that for next month.  Wait, no, I’ll do that next month 🙂  In the meantime, I’m sticking with my average of 5 activity points a day which means 35 for the week with the week being Tuesday to Monday.  I haven’t yet succeeded in meeting that goal, I’ve come close, but I haven’t actually made it there yet.  I’m still working on that.
