Starry starry night

Christmas is over for another year.  And now that my family has celebrated, I can show everyone Mom and Dad’s gift!

So now I have lots of extra yarn, especially the light blue and purple.  So I’m going to make up a bunch of small blankets, probably infant/premie size, for charity.  Something to use up yarn.  I’ve started with the blue, purple and cream and this is what I’ve got so far.

This is using the same diamond pattern as above.  The person who I’m copying this off of used a more solid pattern and sews each diamond together.  That would drive me nuttier than I already am. I like this one, I join each diamond as I go to the one next to it. Much quicker and easier.

An an unrelated note, if you haven’t seen Julie and Julia I highly recommend it.  Very cute and amusing movie, even J enjoyed it.

Anyone have a boat to share?

Anymore rain and we’ll be needing one!  I woke up to downpours yesterday morning, something that continued on and off throughout the day.  And while we need the rain, we don’t need that much at once, because then there’s too much for it to soak into the ground.  Here’s an idea of how much rain we’ve gotten over the past couple of days.  I took this picture yesterday.

High waterThis is normally a deepish ditch near my apartment.  See the two little insets/peninsulas about half way down, one on the right and one on the left?  That’s probably about the normal width of this ditch.  Now there’s so much water that it’s almost even with the road.  And the water you can see behind the trees on the right?  That’s someones driveway.  I’ve seen a small, low to the ground car there before.  So I feel a bit bad for them right now.

And I have to show Little Bit!  She belongs to my neighbor’s parents but is current staying at my neighbor’s place.  Her real name is Tia, but Little Bit fits her so much better.  She’s a Shitzu/Chihuahua mix and is only about 7 weeks.  I love when I get to take her outside, she’s very free with her kisses and she’s still got the puppy breath. Little Bit  I’m not normally a fan of Chihuahua’s, they’re just not a breed I gravitate towards.  But Little Bit is cute as can be!  And yes, this was the best picture I could get of her.  Dang puppy wouldn’t sit still for 5 seconds.

On another note, J and I went and saw Public Enemiestonight and Johnny Depp is like a fine wine.  The older that man gets, the better he gets!  Public Enemieswasn’t as spectacular as I was hoping for, but it was still good and I still recommend it.  Johnny Depp made Dillinger very likable and very relatable.  We also saw some previews of upcoming movies that look good.  Leo DiCaprio is in something Island(the show Harper’s Island comes to mind, and that’s not it) and that not only looks original, but good and possibly slightly scary.  Matt Damon also has one coming out based on a true story, I think it has something to do with Anheuser Busch.  I also saw a poster for Fame, so I guess that’s also being re-made.  It’s sad that Hollywood has come to this already in our lifetime.

Yes, but they were all bad

April 21, 2009

Sunday ended up being a pretty lazy day.  There were things I wanted to do and things I needed to do, but my desire to just crash on the couch outweighed my desire to do anything.  Late Sunday afternoon Fox played True Lies.  It’s been awhile since I’ve seen that movie and I’d forgetten that I really do enjoy it.  I think that movie gave Arnie one of his better lines ever when he told his wife that yes, he had killed people.  But hey, it’s all right ’cause they were all bad.

Now, I’m not advocating killing people (although there are definitely some people who should pass on to the ever after or where ever it is they’re gonna go).  So I think it’s not just what he says, but the ernest way he says it.  I also like the way he segues from telling the dentist type person how he’s going to kill them to how it’s possible since he was handcuffed.

My weekend did end up being pretty quiet though.  J and I went hunting for some jeans and shoes.  I need a sturdy pair of boots that come up over my ankles for my upcoming motorcycle training course.  Because my feet are so wide I have to be careful with what I buy and in fact have been buying men’s New Balance sneakers because they’re wider than womens.  I did find a pair of boots I liked, but they only had 1 in the size I needed, and that particular one had a flaw on the material.  And they didn’t have any snaller sizes in the men’s for the identical shoe.  But!!  Bring on!  They had the boot, they had free shipping, no sales tax and! the boot was about $5 cheaper than at the store!  Woohoo!  So those were ordered today and fingers crossed I’ll have them in time for my class on May 5th.

Rainbows and Sunshine

I can remember being at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, sitting on the floor watching The Last Unicorn.  Over twenty years later, I can still remember not only the over all story line, but also several scenes.  I loved The Last Unicorn, I loved the magic involved, I loved the climax and of course the ending.  I loved it all.  Even at that young age, I very roughly understood the message behind the story.

Thursday after work I had to stop by Target for a couple of things.  While heading for what I needed, I passed the displays at the end of the checkouts, including a bunch of movies for $9.44.  Any guesses as to what I impulsively bought?  You got it!

The Last Unicorn

I haven’t sat down and watched it yet.  But hopefully sometime this weekend I’ll be taking a trip down memory lane.  And I’m sure while I’m watching this, I’ll be transported back to that floor in front of the tv at Grandma and Grandpa’s.
