Oooohhhooooo! Last night J and I went to Howl O Scream at Busch Gardens. I’ve lived here five years and never been. It was supposed to be a group thing, but the coordinator of the group said (after I got this weeks schedule) “no, we’re going on Saturday”. They do this yearly, I’m not sure I’d want to make this a yearly event. It was fun, but I wasn’t scared! And I scare easily. The only time I jumped was entering the haunted house After Hours. Even though all the other houses had someone as soon as you entered trying to scare you, for some reason this was the only one I jumped at.
Part of it may have been having my eyes closed so much. They make liberal use of the strobe lights and now those just hurt my eyes too much. Last night it occurred to me that this might be because of my MS. I have a lesion on my optic nerve and the strobe lights never bothered me as much before. But I don’t think my eyes being closed was the reason. At first I thought I’d be scared more since I couldn’t see any of the people coming out at me. Nope, not the case. I think it’s because they had the sounds so loud (music, recorded scary sounds, etc) that the live people just became part of the background noise. But we did have a good time, even though it was slightly cheesy. And maybe next year we’ll head to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights.
